While Donald Trump and his entourage toasted themselves at Mar-a-Lago on Christmas Eve, the administration quietly authorized U.S. airstrikes in Nigeria—a move immediately wrapped in sanctimony and sold as a moral crusade to “protect Christians.” In this live recording, I break down why that narrative is bullshit.
Yes, Nigeria faces real security threats, including a resurgence of ISIS-affiliated groups. But Trump’s sudden concern for Black Nigerians—Christian specifically—rings hollow given his long record of open contempt for Africa and Africans. The strikes weren’t about humanitarian protection; they were about optics, ego, and distraction. Specifically: distracting from the ongoing Epstein files debacle, a deteriorating economy, and mounting political fallout at home.
Trump has always fetishized the image of strength without the responsibility of consequence. Proxy wars offer the perfect fix: violence without accountability, headlines without congressional debate, and a chance to posture as a “wartime president” without officially declaring one. Layer in evangelical grievance politics, and you get a ready-made justification that they think will play well with MAGA’s base.
The Nigeria strikes are less about terrorism and more about theater—another example of Trump using foreign lives as props in a domestic political performance, all while claiming the mantle of the “no war” president.
