Everything that is awful in Trump’s America is encapsulated in this coming Tuesday’s MAGA primary election in Florida’s 6th District. Republican incumbent Randy Fine is the overwhelming favorite and is almost guaranteed to win the primary. But Dan Bilzerian is the Republican in the race who has the best chance of challenging him. The Bilzerian-versus-Fine battle is a two-person parade of horribles that symbolizes so much of what the MAGA movement has become.
Randy Fine is a raging Islamophobe. He is a race-baiting, bigoted creep. And his opponent, Dan Bilzerian, is an shameless, proud anti-Semite, period. Neither one of them tries to hide who they are. Both live, breathe, and operate in a constant state of misinformation. They take bits of information that are somewhat true, half-true, or just barely true, combine them with conspiracy theories, lies, and outright falsehoods, and push those messages onto a Republican electorate in Florida that chooses not to know any better.
In the grand scheme of things, this is a relatively unimportant congressional primary. It’s not really going to make much of a difference. Democrats are going to easily win the U.S. House of Representatives. But as a narrative, this race is worth paying attention to because it gives us a glimpse of what the Republican Party looks like today—and what the MAGA movement looks like today. It shows us just how fractured this movement has become, where the rats are actually turning on each other, but yet they’re still as horrible as they ever were. There is nothing but hypocrisy and a total lack of continuity.
In this live, I also go over where I’ve been for the last month and a half or so, what I intend to do with my social media across the board, and how much I appreciate all of you sticking with me through this process of change and transition. And, what the future of social media is with me in it.
