While Trump Drains Our Emergency Oil Supplies, You Pay More

Gas should already be above $5 a gallon. Trump's emergency oil reserve con has delayed the pain—but not for much longer.

In this video, we’ll examine one of the most underreported consequences of Trump’s stupid war with Iran: the irresponsible depletion of America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

To keep gasoline prices from spiking during the months long closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the administration has released more than 100 million barrels from the emergency reserve. That strategy amounts to a tax payer funded cover up temporarily temporarily softening prices at the pump. but it comes at a severe cost; weakening the country’s emergency energy safety net.

As reserves continue to fall toward critical legal thresholds, the government’s ability to keep flooding the market with oil becomes increasingly limited.

Iran has little incentive to end the conflict quickly. Rather than weakening Tehran’s position, Trump’s impulsive, harebrained, ongoing back-and-forth military strategy has strengthened Iran’s leverage while increasing economic pressure on the United States. If the conflict drags on, Americans will face significantly higher gas prices, rising transportation costs, and another round of inflation that reaches grocery stores and nearly every corner of the economy.
