Many of the farmers in the uk voted for Brexit, not thinking that a) they relied on a cheap seasonal overseas workforce b) they rely on EU subsidies and c) they shipped a lot of produce into Europe. After Brexit they found that a) they had to slaughter livestock and let unlicked fields go to rot as they couldn't find anyone work on their farms, b) subsidies stopped and c) the red tape to ship into Europe meant it became to costly to do so. So, similar situation to what your farmers are experiencing, and it is really difficult to garner sympathy. Now, the Labour government are taxing farms as part of inheritance tax (still much less than the rest of rhe country), as many rich folk had bought farms to avoid death duties..and again its difficult to feel sympathy as Brexit is costing the country £100 billion GDP every year.
