Live recording: The village idiot's ICE surge; a breaking point for him or a breaking point for America?

Why the Minneapolis raids reveal an authoritarian strategy that’s already collapsing

In this live discussion, I confront the reality many of us would rather avoid: the escalating ICE raids in Minneapolis and St. Paul are not isolated enforcement actions, but part of a broader authoritarian push driven by a politically failing Trump administration. After initially planning to cover other stories—from a Supreme Court trans rights case to economic warning signs—I explain why the images coming out of Minnesota demanded attention.

Drawing on viral footage and coverage from Midas Touch, I describe ICE agents violently detaining people in public spaces, breaking into homes with children present, and terrorizing entire communities. The language in this live is raw, because the moment is raw. What we’re witnessing is not strength, but incompetence, cruelty, and desperation masquerading as power.

I argue that Trump’s politics are effectively over, but that makes the current moment more dangerous, not less. As public support erodes, authoritarian tactics intensify. Still, there is a limit. History, polling, public outrage, election results and sustained resistance show that this strategy ultimately backfires. Americans do not tolerate secret police, political intimidation, or state violence for long.

This live is a reminder: fear is the point—but courage, visibility, and refusal are the antidote.
